COVERT THINKING (6) faced the starter for the first time and finished tenth last start at Hawkesbury over 6½f, beaten 4.5 lengths. Likely improver and worth following up. TAWFIQ TOM (4) is close to breaking through, last start finishing just half a length away in second over 7½f at Port Macquarie. Goes up a rung or two but he is worth serious consideration. BUCKENARA (1) wasn't far off maiden success before a four months break, finishing the prep with a minor placing at Randwick. Ran fourth in a recent trial at Randwick. Solid top-three hope.
